African Platform for Phosphorus

The African Platform for Phosphorus is a pan-African
initiative launched in September 2025 in Dakar, on the
sidelines of the Africa Food System Forum. It aims to
address one of the continent’s most urgent yet
under-recognized challenges

Why this platform?

Although Africa holds more than 80% of the world’s phosphate
rock reserves, many African soils suffer from severe phosphorus
deficiency. This essential nutrient is critical for plant growth,
yet its limited availability significantly constrains agricultural
productivity and food security across the continent
